What is OM and what does it mean?

Om is a mantra or vibration, which is attributed to a prominent spiritual and creative power, being the basic sound of the universe. Indeed it is seen as the complete vibration that represents the sum total of the states of consciousness possible in the human being.

Patanjali affirmed that the Om Symbol is the direct path to oneself, to the deepest part of each one. When we sing it, we tune in and recognize our connection with all living beings, with nature as a whole and with the universe as well.

Some benefits include that the rhythmic vibrations produced by chanting the mantra have a physical effect on the body, as it slows down the nervous system and calms the mind.

Oms also increase concentration as well as specifically stimulate the 3rd eye chakra to increase the powers of intuition and inner vision.

When to sing OM?

You can sing it whenever you want. For example, chanting Om is a great way to start a class because they invite the group to join together in harmony, and they set the spiritual intention of the class time. Also at the beginning and/or end of your meditation.
